Abstract

Five new zinc complexes, [Zn2L2] (1), [ZnBr2(LH)2] (2), [ZnCl2(LH)2] (3), [Zn(LH)2(NCS)2] (4), and [ZnI(CH3OH)L] (5), have been synthesized from the Schiff base 5-bromo-2-((cyclohexylimino)methyl)phenol (HL) under microwave irradiation. All the complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis spectra. Structures of the complexes were further studied by single crystal X-ray determination, which revealed that the Zn atoms are in tetrahedral coordination. The halide and pseudohalide anions are readily coordinate to the Zn atoms. The biological activity of the complexes on the bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was evaluated and gave interesting results.
